WHY NOT BIZ?

The Penguins’ bottom-six forwards have been strengthened.

The Penguins have Steve Downie, Nick Spaling, Brandon Sutter, Marcel Goc, Blake Comeau, and Craig Adams. Zach Sill offers an option. Perhaps Pascal Dupuis drops down from the top six for all the right reasons.

That’s a decent group. But it still lacks a certain something.

GM Jim Rutherford should sign free agent Paul Bissonnette.

“Biz Nasty” made his NHL debut with the Penguins, playing 15 games in 2008-09. He skated the last five seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes, participating in 187 games. He played 39 games this past campaign, notching a career-high eight points. Sometimes he dressed, sometimes he didn’t. When Bissonnette did get a sweater, he didn’t necessarily play very much.

But the 6-foot-3, 220-pound winger knows his role. He hits. He fights. He’s excellent on the bench and in the locker room. He always works. Never bitches.

With Bissonnette and Downie in uniform, punching Sidney Crosby in the head or slashing him in the face would cease. The opposition would no longer be at liberty.

Bissonnette is a good teammate. He provides glue. The Penguins need glue.

For the NHL minimum? I absolutely can’t see why not.

Plan B: Ryan Malone. Watch this space.
